I’m getting hurled way back into my young adulthood with this breezy little 7”. The A side has a fairly decent stab at the type of sound produced by swathes of plaid-clad rock bands of the early ‘90s who dealt in slightly discordant guitars, plaintive vocals producing a sound that recalled something like an ironed Sonic Youth.
Guitars strum away effectively whilst the vocals are nicely distorted just so. Lots of sweet melodic changes recalling (early) Teenage Fanclub, Built to Spill and Buffalo Tom. On the flip, we get something that, as John Peel used to say, starts quietly. The jangling, eerie guitars and whispered voice recall the doomy atmospherics of Slint. It never really explodes with rage but the volume knob is turned up halfway through to a nicely angry shouty chorus. Far too good to be just 100 (numbered) copies.
