8/10 Clinton Staff review, 20 December 2012

New single from the phenomenally popular Fruits de Mer label. As usual what we have here are cover versions. On the A side Temple Music do a messy, slightly shambolic take on the excellent Hollies track ‘Pegasus’. It weighs in somewhere between Broadcast, Bardo Pond and something a lot more psychedelic. As the good people of Terrascope magazine say - if you own a lava lamp, now is a good time to turn it on.

On the flip, Vespero take on Faust’s ‘Jennifer’. Vespero are a Russian band who have a neat line in gentle psych music with some nice clattery drums. Hints of the Green Pajamas and Rain Parade; vocals just slightly off key, bass slightly flat. It veers off into some oddball ‘70s prog tangent at times but it’s nice lolling folk/psych. The sleeve features full frontal nudity, a horse and on the back some rear nudity. I’m just warning you, but it’s nice to see Fruits De Mer produce a sleeve that’s not all pixelated.
