Hair Police made some good records. Are they still around? Robert Beatty from the band has been busy of late creating a ton of super nice record sleeves, some for Spectrum Spools including this one for his own Three Legged Race record. The recordings here span 2008-2012 and is actually the debut full length from Beatty’s project despite having a ton of tapes and CDr’s etc. It’s a pretty strange record actually which is always a good start for me.

There’s I guess what I could call rhythms but they’re all jumbled and tangled up amongst lots of weird detailed and complex bloops and bleeps which combine to create quite a surreal soundworld which I’m struggling to pull a comparison to for reference which again is a good thing. It’s certainly created in the spirit of early electronic innovators and pioneers and at several points if someone had blindfolded me and told me I was listening to the BBC Radiophonic workshop I wouldn’t have questioned them.

The only trouble with these Spectrum Spools releases is that they come thick and fast and you need to win the fucking Lottery to keep up with them. Pretty darn quirky and trippy too.
