8/10 ReviewBot300 Staff review, 28 November 2012
This one here is the first vinyl issue of a 1996 self-produced tape by French coldwavers Memoires D’Automne, and as you would expect it’s full of metronomic beats, watery guitars, brittle bass and heartfelt vocals, with more than a hint of gothy post-punk retro, recalling The Cure (think ‘A Forest’, ‘Hanging Garden’), early Bauhaus, early 4AD stuff like Clan of Xymox, Joy Division.
It’s well put together stuff, some of the songs have a heavy chorus and flange on the bass that gives it this really alien, burbly sound which I like. The copies we’ve got come complete with a postcard signed by all three band members, which is only included with 144 of the pressing of 444. There’s a download code too!
