Well we’re down to the last couple of hours in the office and I’m just rushing off a couple of reviews before we break off for Christmas so I’m going to have to keep things briefer here than an album like this really deserves. Bletchley improv rock collective Action Beat are always a blast to see live but I’ve often found their records to be a little hit-and-miss (as I suppose one would expect from an improv-noise band).

This time around though they’ve delivered an epic 20 track epic on unlabelled vinyl with no tracklist...I think I’ve listened to most of it now though. Their jams are totally blistering and tight, mixing krautrock, Sonic Youthy ‘90s indieisms, babbling Racebannony spazz-outs, dynamic post-rock bluster and clanking, screeching noise rock at breakneck pace. They seem to have really hit their stride here and the songs are so tight and focused that it’s hard to tell how much of them have been improvised. This is great, check it out.
