The press release helpfully mentions a whole host of artists to use as comparison to this Manchester five-piece but not seemingly the ones I know as poindexter and his bespectacled crew. Yes, there is no getting away from it there is more than a passing resemblance to Hot Chip with its complex slightly sophisticated electro-pop, topped off by choirboy vocals. So why do I like this more than the London based irritants?

It’s not just that it’s less knowing, less smug, more that the melodies are much more akin to the complicated but enjoyable pop as made by the likes of Field Music (but guitars are generally banned/binned). Also the name Junior Boys is floating about my lips...I may at some point mention them as a ballpark influence. The flip is kinda electro prog rock similar to the as yet mercifully unreleased ‘Hot Chip Plays the Music of Yes’ triple album. Still, despite it being so cold in my chair that I am now frozen in stasis, its been kinda enjoyable.
