Tom Russell seems to be gaining a lot of support lately under his MPIA3 guise, having recently been picked up by R&S, but personally I prefer his productions as Truss. This is his second for Sigha’s Our Circula Sound label.

‘Splot sounds like a cross between Jeff Millls’ ‘The Bells’ and DJ Hell’s ‘Totmacher’ except with a gargantuan over-driven kick drum that’d you’d usually find on a gabber track rather than one at this tempo. The toughness is of course appreciated. This chap doesn’t fuck about, he’s on a mission to get you sweating and rocking proper style. None of this Berlin techno poser shit, this is proper filthy warehouse gubbins. You might have caught Surgeon dropping it in a recent mix.

‘Auden’ has massive metallic keys, a nice mid-tempo groove and of course a stomper of a kick completes the picture. All fairly simple elements  but combined to great effect and really in your face.

His evil twin MPIA3 turns up to shred your knackers off with his definition of ‘Beacon’. It’s a full on acid slammer in the vein of oldskool shit like The Mover / PCP etc. Hopefully I’ll get to hear this over a big system and watch the light-weights drop like flies. Heheh.
