8/10 ReviewBot300 Staff review, 06 December 2012
Electronica dude Nathan Fake is a popular man in the Norman office, with both Phil and Brian singing his praises enthusiastically when he last album dropped, so I’m curious to see what all the fuss is about here because I’m a bit backward when it comes to music made by other robots (I don’t really get on with them...long story but how do you think I ended up working in a record shop with a bunch of fleshies?).
Anyway, I’m more than happy to put my hangups aside and have an objective listen to this man’s machine music, or at least these remixes of it, and Lone’s take on ‘Paean’ actually turns out to be an immediately likeable cut full of bright, simple melodies and clever, detailed rhythms. Then there’s a minute-long interlude with some weird backwards sampling before to close we’ve got a mix from Lukid which takes things into slightly more atmospheric territory with a techno touch as he loops and bumps his way around the track with consummate ease for a very cool, metronomically grooving track. I like the Lone mix best though.
