Phil says this sounds “well Pitchfork”. Basically what Local Natives are doing here is their lush melodic indie rock thing with fairly dense arrangements and smooth, high vocals. A-side ‘Breakers’ is reminding me of a less playful Of Montreal or something, it’s nice.

On the B side however we’ve got ‘Black Spot (After Dome Demo)’ (“recorded on a phone”, says the sleeve) which is totally different, with slow, mournful synth-piano chords over a soulful, sad vocal take which really showcases their singer’s silky smooth vocal stylings. So yeah, there’s some lush arranged indiepop on the A side and a sad piano ballad on the B, and they’re both pretty good.
