- Fall Out & Fire by R.Ring
9/10 Clinton Staff review, 16 November 2012
Quite a lot of so-so records this week but it’s nice to bring a bit of Ibrahimovic-like class at the end with this nice little 7” by R. Ring, which features none other than Breeder sister and cockney rhyming slang for ‘jellied eel’ Miss Kelley Deal. I’m pleased to see from the photo that she’s still sorta hot in her knitted blue cardigan - not sure about the feller though (actually its the dude from Ampline) he has one of those beards that must have things living in it. Together they are R. Ring and the A side is a typical Breeders-like simple thing with clattery acoustic guitar and THAT voice which makes me all a quiver courtesy of just sounding a bit like sister Kim.The song doesn’t do much but proves that with a nice simple tune and a distinctive voice you can pretty much walk all over these clever sods with their gadgets. On the flip we get a much more upbeat tune which blasts along a bit like an early childlike take on Built to Spill. Mainly sung by the man though and I wanted the lady to sing again. That said it’s a really neat little 7”.
