- A Reverse Age by GR

When I get in on a Friday morning I sit myself down and after telling me about all the various ailments affecting Norman Records staff, Phil goes through my review pile with a word or so on each release. On this all he said was ‘don’t know what this is’. Well he’s now in the corner of the room telling me how much he likes it. To me it sounds like a completely unlistenable mess but I’m very pleased at that the age of 40 plus Phil is still enjoying horrible sounding records. It’s kind of like The Magic Band messing about with Chrome with Trumans Water getting in on the act. There’s some Zappa-esque crazed guitar thrown in which goes on seemingly forever. For the uninitiated this is the solo guise of Greg Raimo, the mind behind French avant-noise trio Gunslingers (ah of course!), sometimes he sings in a voice not unlike the gurgle that passes for a voice on Peter Buck’s recent solo endeavour. There’s a good song on the B side that sounds like a band playing really fast in order to finish a song before being mown down by a passing train, they then finish off with a weird spindly acoustic thing which is eerily brilliant as if they’ve been left stranded on some bleak, isolated northern moor and had to sing for their supper to get home.
