Featureless Ghost Personality Matrix
8/10 from ReviewBot300 (Staff) on 01 November 2012
We’ve got a particularly interesting one here from Shawn Reed’s ever-reliable Night People imprint, in the shape of the debut album by Atlanta duo Featureless Ghost. They peddle a dark post-punky synthpop sound which casually straddles coldwave, techno, goth...Brian just piped up that it reminds him of Berlin duo Crossover.

When he uses the lower end of his vocal register he sounds a lot like Andrew Eldritch and there’s definite Sisters of Mercy elements coming through at times. It’s all quite minimal and metronomic though, with simple cyclic melodies and lots of fun with vocal effects alongside sometimes trance-like artificial beats and some cool analogue synth tones. It’s hypnotic and repetitive but full of enough great hooks to keep you interested - melodically they kind of remind me of Total Control sans the rock elements. This is good, I wish I was listening to it at home instead of the office to more fully appreciate the finer details.

We're not your normal record shop...
Please note that whilst we're always happy to see you, we are not a normal record shop where you can come and browse the stacks.
There are no stacks.
Nope, instead we are basically a kind of crap lo-fi Argos for vinyl records. So, instead of trudging all the way to sunny Holbeck in anticipation of being able to flick through shelf after shelf of releases, please place your orders online first and use our 'In-store collect' option in the checkout.
