- Haunted Woodland Volume 3 by Charles Vaughan

The third in the trilogy of CDs by Charles Vaughan is out this week. The previous two were released on Halloween and this one is no exception. It’s also packaged very similarly in a brown cardboardy thing with black and white pictures of woodland and a mappy booklet inside with photos and information in.
Musically it plots an aural journey of an ancient monk’s walk in Staffordshire. So far so good. Though in that particular area bizarre rituals are purported to have taken place by wrong folk who are all bad in the head. Sonically it treads a very similar path to the previous two releases. Field recordings, keyboard sampler, tape, bass, drums, synths, dictaphone and acoustic/electric guitars have all been used to create the listening experience. It’s a hazy nostalgic sounding listen and it reminds me a little of The Caretaker (as the last release did...check out ‘Troubled Sleep/Ghost Reverie’) but with a darker edge to it. Yes, darker...the eerie bubbling noises and crows barking in the background make it sound a little sinister. ‘Blood Ritual’ is an awesome tune with it’s walls of fuzz, falling down the stairs drums and general clanking about. I like it anyhoo and you should too. Limited to not very many copies though I’m not sure how many. We’ve got about 20 left as I type.
