8/10 Ant Staff review, 31 October 2012

Gosh, this is a super posh package. A CD housed in a textured card artbook with lots of monochrome photographs. It’s so pure looking I’m almost afraid to touch it. In many ways the audio reflects the minimalist aesthetic of the package. Created with acoustic sounds which have then been treated electronically, this Polish artist crafts 45 minutes of spacious piano and  found sounds with the overall mood being sombre and reflective. If you’re in the mood for weeping into your pint then this will assist the process.

Listen deeper though and this is more than just sad music, there’s real human feeling injected into the sound. The addition of the field recording elements elevate it to become a journey in the artists shoes and you get the feeling of walking around a city, observing the activities, the characters and the landscape. The strings sound particularly poignant at times. Kaliski has assistance from Broderick and Aaron Martin too. Recommended if you like the two aforementioned artists as well has Tim Hecker, Max Richter and all the neoclassical/ambient type gear.
