- It's Too Late by Wild Belle

Phil looked at the cover of this record and said ‘this looks like it will be good’. For gods sake man, it has a saxophone on the cover. And worse, a man with a beard about to blow into it. Shocking. The first track features the de-rigeur lady warble that sounds like some pop lady we just can’t place - the ReviewBot reckons Paloma Faith and I’m going to agree in order to put myself out of the misery of thinking - atop a reggae-lite back beat and several interjections by that infernal sax. Its a light fluffy tune which is nothing if not inoffensive. The second tune is more minimal, devoid of sax, still with a skinny late reggae Lily Allen/Kate Nash feel - it makes Aswad sound like the deepest, darkest King Tubby experiment.I don’t what the freak is going on on the B Side, Phil says Saint Etienne which is a very generous comparison. Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) provides a remix at the end, I just hope that he got handsomely paid. The remix would be nice if he’d left the vocal off. Cue my constant whinge about vocals left on remixes. These were, and I wasn’t there to confirm this, one of the hottest new acts at SXSW, and this 12” is insanely cheap - just £3.89 for four ‘songs’.
