Yesterday I was aching...ACHING to just disappear to a little wind-blown bolthole nestling in a quiet corner of the Yorkshire dales, fire crackling away in the corner. IPad, phone, things that keep me connected to the stuff I don’t really need to know about all left at home.

This album has the kind of warm fireside glow of those mid ‘70s Fairport Convention records that you just know were recorded in a commune-like environment where the men chopped wood before laying down twiddly guitar solos and the women fed the children between vocal takes. Arrangement-wise it’s a busy take on your eco-nappy folk rock, with lots of gorgeous Laurel Canyon harmonies, one part Buffalo Springfield, one part Fleetwood Mac.

On the second play through I’m enjoying it a lot more now that I’m figuring out what they are all about. There is a Teenage Fanclub man in tow here and there are hints of their soft ‘60s harmonising. This could fit in quite nicely with your Lucky Luke, Trembling Bells style stuff but with much more of a soft-rock approach. Vocally, the words Sandy and Denny are leaping out at me, in fact as well as Fairport Convention there is a lot of Denny’s post-Fairport project Fotheringay within the grooves.
