Mogwai are back with a brand new album! Well when I say brand new it’s Hardcore Will Never Die’ remixed by all and sundry. And when I say all and sundry and I don’t just mean any ole gimp. They’ve got the likes of Justin K Broadrick, Cylob, Xander Harris, Zombi, Tim Hecker, Soft Moon, Umberto, etc all doing the biz!

I tend to find with remix albums the source material is often hard to identify and the tracks end up sounding like whoever is remixing them. That is the case here with each artist stamping their mark on the original tune. You can hear elements of originals here but for example Cylob has pitched the vocals up and vocodered them up. His track is especially squelchy and sweet sounding. ‘The Mogwai is My Dick Rmx’ is a total braindance fest and I’ve no idea who it’s by but it’s very much in the vein of early Squarepusher/AFX.

Zombi do the biz with their usual Moroder/Carpenter panache. RM Hubbert takes it down a notch with some gentle guitar plucking and breathy vocals (and not much else). Tim Hecker’s take on ‘Rano Pano’ is awesome with his trademark walls of fuzz kicking in over some synth soundscapes. Nice! it’s a thoroughly entertaining listen and if you’re a fan of the artists included as well as Mogwai then this will go down a right treat!
