8/10 Phil Staff review, 16 November 2012
Is it Bonnie or Bonny? Or does it change all the time? I don’t know anymore. This week has been a pain in the tits and I’m unable to do things properly now... Anyway these guys paired up back in December 2007 for the ‘Wai Notes’ album which was universally loved by all who heard it. Zip forward to the present and they’re back a with a Christmas single. Now I know nothing about Christmas being a massive bacon eating Jew but I think it’s something to do with giving presents to Jesus and eating bacon. I don’t know...This is a lovely duet anyway. Their voices fit together beautifully as they did on ‘Wai Notes’ and the sparse arrangements complement the vocals. It doesn’t even sound Christmassy aside from the odd mention of Xmas trees and it being cold. Both tracks are cover versions and as I’m losing the will to live I’m gonna leave this one there. Though I will say the chorus of ‘Christmas Eve Can Kill You’ sounds like it could have been written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
