- Awash by Manual
9/10 Phil Staff review, 02 November 2012
It’s been a while since the last Manual album. In the meantime Jonas Munk has been keeping himself busy rocking out out some more with Causa Sui (those Pewt’r Sessions rocked!). We’re back to more familiar Manual territory with his new chilled out album on Darla.
I think ‘Awash’ is his 10th album now (including collaborations) and it’s good to hear the old Munk back on form. Actually this is more of an EP as it’s only six tracks but it’s still album price you’ll be pleased to know. There’s some lush washed out synth lines on this album along with some slow hazy drumbeats which leave you with a summery blissed out vibe. You can hear some of the Schnuasser of Ulrich in there as well as a hefty Boards of Canada (Campire Headphase era) influence.Tracks like ‘Saudade’ showcase this supremely well with that ‘70s analog synth sound and hypnotic beat. It’s nice to hear someone out there do something like this every so often, especially from such a supremely talented and versatile musician. Very good indeed!
