9/10 Tom Customer review, 30th May 2018I think we can all agree that there's nothing worse than "Beatles people." You know the ones - those people who think that music begins and ends with the be-mopped Liverpudlians. That being said, I do have a lot of love for the Beatles so this compilation (originally released in 1988 as their albums were getting issued on CD for the first time) is a really interesting set. Not exactly a best-of, it features a wide array of singles, b-sides and oddities that never featured on any of their albums. This means that you get a bit of everything from 'Love Me Do' to 'The Ballad of John and Yoko' as well as a few curios, such as the German-language recordings of 'She Loves You' and 'I Want To Hold Your Hand'. A interesting introduction to the Beatles as well as a convenient fan-boys dream, Past Masters is definitely worth investigating. Just don't become one of those Beatles people...
9/10 Jack Customer review, 6th January 2015
If you wanted to introduce anyone to The Beatles this would be the best place to start. Past Masters obliterates the need for any Beatles compilation albums. Chronicling the bands entire singles and B-sides releases from “Love Me Do” to “Let it Be”, Past Master’s has an extensive track list with some rarities you may not be aware of. I was pleased to hear some recordings by the band, from the bombastic Little Richie cover of “Long Tall Sally” to the humorous “You Know My Name”. Get it for a friend or for yourself, ‘tis well worth it.
