6/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 13th February 2015

I fondly remember the BMX Bandits as the band who did "Kylie's Got A Crush On Us", "Little Hands" and "Serious Drugs" back in the early '90s. With the exception of 2006's "At The Hop" I'd forgotten they existed for the best part of 20 years until I stumbled across "In Space". After the title track which is just an elongated countdown to launch we get "Still". My first impression was that it sounded like a much more mature band, and was reminiscent of Norman Blake's post-Teenage Fanclub stuff. It's a nice song. "Beautiful Friend" could well be decent song but that is lost due to the daft disco style they've decided to record it in. "Look At You, Look At Me" has a '50s love song feel to it and it reminiscent of St. Etienne's "So Tough" period. "Like The Morning Sun" has an easy listening thing going on which continues on "Listen To Some Music". It's all a bit disappointing coming from the guitar-pop band I used to love. There are some nice melodies going on though.
