9/10 Mike Staff review, 21 November 2012

Named after a shoe shop in Iceland, this Bonus Skor collaboration came about when “flute wrangler” Laura J Martin got together with Tunng/Cheek Mountain Thief’s Mike Lindsay to work on material for her new solo album, and they ended up putting said album on the back-burner as they concentrated on this collaborative EP of beguiling experimental pop.

The first thing that strikes me here is that the production is quite playful, drifting effortlessly between passages of brittle experimentation and sweeping arranged pop, reminding me at times of the bands like Notwist, Menomena and The Magnetic North. The slightly Christmassy-sounding, tentative pop of closer ‘Applecart’ is my highlight, with a staccato tip-toe momentum and extravagantly layered vocals. It’s irresistibly warm and uplifting.

Martin’s delicate high-pitched vocals take the fore through the majority of the tracks, although ‘Fish’s Tail’ has some great hushed call-and-response vocals between the two of them which is very pleasing. The production throughout is incredibly slick and the sounds are luxurious and mellifluous throughout. The photo of the two of them on the inside of the sleeve made me giggle too. Top marks.

9/10 James Customer review, 7th August 2013

This is a great release pairing the talents of Laura J. Martin and Tunng, basically. The "single" from this EP-"Applecart"-is spooky folk/pop music.
