Valve make great videogames. That’s a fact! Portal 2 is a great videogame. That’s another fact. It combined the genres of shooty and puzzle with physics and though I’ve probably made it sound quite unappealing it’s actually brilliant. Ipecac have got together a massive four CD box set of the soundtracks to both Portal 1 and 2. Genius!

Also in the box you get a mini comic and codes to play Team Fortress 2 and DOTA 2. Genius! It’s a right ole package for fans of both video gaming and music! So you get 3 CDs of Portal 2 soundtrack which vary in styles from neoclassical to varying styles of electronic music. I’ve played the game loads and I have to say I don’t remember any of these but that’s cos I was too busy thinking about how to complete the fiendish puzzles contained within!

I’m on to disk two and there is genuinely a right ole mish mash of tracks...for example it opens with ‘You Will Be Perfect’ which is kind of like Add N To (X) crossed with The Matrix, it then goes into some minimal electronic blooping, kind of like a primitive Radiophonic Workshop, and then you hit ‘(defun botsbuildbots () (botsbuildbots))’ which started off with some gentle harping before some harsh synths come in and general electronicuppery. It’s fun!

This game is one of the best I have played, it is an excelent game with an excelent soundtrack. Some people might not notice this legendary soundtrack while playing the game, because they are too focused on solving the brain-teasing puzzles. I would recommend playing the game before getting the soundtrack. But this soundtrack is definitely worth the buy. The music is just futuristic and goes well with the game.
