What’s this then? Some kind of tropical ‘60s pop number is what’s going on here, with somewhat Razorlighty vocals that I shall gloss over in favour of talking about the hazy summer atmosphere conjured up and the bouncy, kind of Vampire Weekend-meets-Carnivores feel, but then towards the end the vocals get a bit more Smithsy and then there’s a bit of a rock out to close. It’s almost like two songs for the price of one, although I’m more impressed with the writing than the delivery. The song on the other side sounds quite a lot like a Britpop version of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and brings out a new nasality in the singer’s voice which I hadn’t noticed before. Is it bad that it’s reminding me of Gene? You decide. I probably sound quite critical of this guy’s voice but it’s got character and he can hold a note so who am I to complain. It’s perfectly alright.
