Well this one’ll wake you up! Here’s the obnoxious, exuberant jazz-noise mega-trio that is Nilssen-Love/Marhaug/Pupillo, and from the outset of opener ‘Necrophiliac Cunnilingus’ they’re clearly out on a mission to spunk splintered glass all over your brainholes with all manner of rupturing, splintered, distorted noise, with Nilssen-Love on “battery of total limb annihilation”, Pupillo on “low-end bowel chainsaw” and Marhaug taking “electronic torture devices” duties. Of course the record is so blown out and distorted that one can only take an educated guess at the equipment they’re using here but at least most of the time it seems to be a bass/drums/guitar trio with Nilssen-Love’s powerful free-grooving splatter percussion assault anchoring the rumbling spray of guitar and bass shrapnel that pings and grunts its way into your puckering flesh.
This is actually closer to a “rock” record than I expected, echoing Shit & Shine at their most anarchic in places, with traces of Mika Vainio’s guitar abuse at times too, but the tracks seem to drift between free expressive growl-o-chunter and pounding psychedelic repeato-grooving noise grunt assaults. I thought it’d be much harder work than it is to be honest, if you’re into these aggressive Scandi-jazz types you’ll love annoying your neighbours with this beast. If our Ant was here he’d be jizzing his’sen over this ‘un. Much more than just harsh noise, it’s fun, listenable, anarchic, intense, jazzy, bulldozingly blown-out, and it features tracks called ‘Vomit Buffet’ and ‘Forest of Disembowelment’. What more could you possibly want?
