I hold Model 500 material pretty sacred and so when artist come along and remixes his stuff I’m usually a little sceptical. I’ve yet to hear anyone better the originals so let’s see what we have here. First up is Sei I who I know nothing about but here he/she/they keep Juan Atkins’s original vocals and transform it into a decent little downtempo spaced out number.

Synkro is up next with the ‘Slow Jam Mix’ is, as the title suggests even more spaced out with a syrupy plodding kick drum, dark and eerie bassline and kinda eastern-sounding sample. It’s a spacious dubbed out take that bears little resemblance to the original but is a decent enough track in its own right.

Colonel Red’s Drunken Master mix is a slow-motion sort of dubstep version that incorporates the vocals into a smoked out wobbler. Indigo Transmission is a downtempo 4/4 take with filtered vocals and ambient breakdown which kicks back in with an itchy bassline. Sorta housey this one I guess. Shadow Child And Horx turn in a jazzy funky version which borders on being almost two-steppy. Overall a pretty disappointing package for me personally but I’m sure some folks out there will find something to enjoy across the five mixes.
