Mouse On Mars are back for their 11th album. It only seems like yesterday I was listening to Vulvaland and Ioara Tahiti (actually I was listening to Ioara Tahiti yesterday!). Mouse On Mars are back for their 11th album. It only seems like yesterday I was listening to Vulvaland and Ioara Tahiti (actually I was listening to Ioara Tahiti yesterday!). Yes I was buying Mouse On Mars records back in 1994! I have to admit to not spending as much time with their later releases (too many records out) but I wanted to check out their latest opus ‘Wow’.

From the off it’s a bass heavy affair. You get the trademark Mouse On Mars playful squelches and beeps but they’re coated in some seriously bassy vibes. I’m going to use the word playful again as I think it sums up the MOM sound perfectly. It’s a playful sounding album of clubby electronica with post-rave/techno/acid influences. It’s also crackers. You’ve no idea what’s gonna come next and the selections of samples are wild.

There’s also guest star vocals from Argentinian girl group Las Kellies though I’ve heard the album twice now and I’m yet to spot them. There’s nowhere for your ears to hide though as there’s things happening all over the shop. It’s proper full on! Ooh I just heard the Las Kellies woman! All this adds up to it being a suitably exciting aural technicolour feast!

There’s also an accompanying iPhone app (Wretchup) which is some crazy voice manipulation thing. Suitably nuts.
