9/10 Phil Staff review, 16 October 2012
This is the nicest thing I’ve seen in a while (probably since the last one of these that came out a while back). So let me dwell on the packaging for a wee while which is rather special! You get a plush red velvet stringed up bag and inside is a CD (the cover of the disc is the inside of a tea leaf reading mug) which is wrapped in cloth and ribbon (some of which is now languishing in my keyboard). You also get a tasteful insert with a tracklisting on on some olde style burnt looking paper and a smudge stick made out of sage which will help make goodness and warn off evil and badness!
The Cd itself features 11 tracks by the likes of Geese, Kilgore Trout (a name I’ve not heard for a very long time), Mueran Humanos, St 37, The Congregation, 3eese, Frozen Geese and lots more. It’s a right old mixed bag of music as well (ignore the pun). The opener by Geese is a heartfelt cosmic pop number with guitar and drum machine. Lovely stuff! There’s a lot of lo-fi cosmic sounding pop on the album. The track by ‘Howard Be Thy Name’ is a muddy spaced out number with washed out sounding vocals and guitars. The ‘Simply Gerard’ track is a minimal pop tune with sparse vocals and instrumentation, some electronics and a whole load of acid. The whole thing is acid drenched actually so if you’re after some lo-fi crazy drug fuelled fun packaged exquisitely then this is well worth checking out. .
