Ah, September Girls or Gurls. A good song eh? Pretty much the blueprint for every Teenage Fanclub song ever written. This is the band September Girls and they are girls apparently. They do a pretty decent take on the girl group wall of sound shot through with an early ‘90s shoegaze thing.

Guitars jangle atop a murky undercurrent while vocals are waaaaay back in the mix. Phil has just mumbled that he likes it which is certainly a rarity. He says Velocity Girl, I say Lush, the truth is somewhere between the two. The vocals are really high, I know they are girls but the helium effect is like early ‘80s psych poppers The Three O Clock, “and what about the voice of Michael Quercio, how does it get so high? I wonder if he talks like an ordinary guy?”...

Back on track the flip is more girl group poppiness. I’ve just seen a picture of these girls and they are well glam, a strange juxtaposition to their sound which does sound like they’ve recorded the single in someones lawnmower (in a good way).
