Exciting times! Today we’ve got the second instalment in the reactivated Man Or Astro-Man?’s glorious comeback, with three more tracks of sci-fi indie-surf mayhem. Interestingly enough they’ve upped the vocals considerably, with two of these three tracks having some kind of singing on them. Anyway, on the first side there’s ‘Chemical Breakdown II’ which sounds not unlike early Devo covering ‘Pump It Up’ by Elvis Costello, but with the trademark MoAM? surf crunch.

Turn it over and ‘All Systems To Go’ has gleeful robotic vocoder overdrive and fast, tight riffing for a sugar rush that’s akin to Apparat Organ Quartet translated to guitars. Then to close there’s a track which is exclusive to this 7”, ‘Chemical Cats’. It’s excellent but if it’s not an instrumental version of their classic vocal track ‘9v Tongue’ then it’s very, very similar. Still, that’s a great song, this is a great instrumental, Man Or Astro-Man? still don’t know how to make a bad record. I think this one is a bit rawer and more hard-hitting than the first in this series, and more consistent in general. Can’t wait to hear the album.
