Craig Dermody, head dude of the Neighbourstastic Scott and Charlene's Wedding, should probably try to cheer the fuck up a little.
Because for all the woes of small-town living in Australia it seems to equip one with the wherewithal to produce a superb little album. An album full of the woes of small-town living in Australia, maybe, but then I grew up in a small town in the grim Midlands of the UK and there's no way anyone from my neck of the woods could've written this.
I'm not one for making musical comparisons (simply don't have the all-round knowledge of the other guys here at Norman Towers) but this is all lo-fi, scratchy, garage-y guitars 'n' drums and yelping, badly-sung vocals on downbeat themes.
In other words, it's kinda brilliant. As is the artwork. And check out their video for the excellent 'Footscray Station'. I think Dermody might not be quite as glum as the songs make out, probably because he's clearly some kind of all-round talented fucker and knows it.
