You couldn’t make this job up. I’ve just stroked my chin effectively to Harold Budd, feeling like a lost boy attempting to explain its highbrow sounds. Now I’m going to tell you about the new record by Solange who is Beyonce’s sister.

Strangely, she has indie-credentials. The A side was recorded with bizarrely-everywhere nearly man Dev Hynes (Blood Orange, Test Icicles, Lightspeed Champion) and the B side is a co-write with Of Montreal nutjob Kevin Barnes. The music is not offensive at all. It’s melancholy ‘80s dance-pop somewhere between Madonna’s bleaker moments and the gorgeous slow smooch of Womack & Womack in their ‘Teardrops’ heyday. A little tinny perhaps and of course way more chart than pretty much the rest of this weeks releases put together but I’d be happy seeing this sort of stuff covered on X Factor rather than Elton John for the billionth time. The B side could be described in one word - pathetic. Total rubbish. The A side’s okay though.
