All these tracks were from the ‘Hissing Fauna’ period or later. As ever they display the usual array of insanity you’d expect from Mr Barnes and co. I was a huge fan of his earlier material but since it got more mainstream and more funk pop I kinda lost my way with it a bit over the years. Listening to it though I’m wondering why as it’s hard not to like this. It still has all the 60’s psych pop elements, it’s still got lunatic vocals and arrangements so I’m not sure why I fell out with them. There’s some awesomely catchy tunes on here which are sticking in my head on first listen. It’s good to hear some strong wonk pop and it’s not as Prince-y as some of they other material is (which pleases me as there is only one Prince). The styles vary from track to track as well so it might go from hip hop to some skewed psych pop, to some wierd bastardised electro pop. Hey, it’s all good fun! I’ve just read that back and I said pop a lot. Sorry!
