- Honor Found In Decay by Neurosis

Ooh, hello. One of the things that’s found its way onto my review pile this week is Neurosis’s first album in five years! I think you probably already know what it’s going to sound like to be honest, since these prog-stoner-metal titans have been whipping up their own distinctive whirlwind of epic doomy psychedelia for nigh-on 30 years now and played a pretty pivotal role in forming the current musical landscape, with the whole post-rock/post-metal explosion of the early ‘00s owing obvious debts to their patient, churning heaviness.
‘Honor Found In Decay’ doesn’t exactly throw out any surprises and in places it does seem like they’re on autopilot doing Neurosis-by-numbers a bit, but if you’re already a Neurosis fan you’re bound to enjoy it. It’s full of slow riffs, sneering vocals and mesmerising rhythms, sudden dramatic dynamic shifts and epic, soaring melodies. It does sound awfully reminiscent of a lot of music that came out a decade or so ago but when they hit their stride like in the urgent, chunky grooves of tracks like ‘At The Well’ still sound cavernous and alive in a way that few of their imitators did. Fancy limited packaging if you're quick too.
