Ooh, this is a very cool-looking tape. There’s little additional bits inside that makes it look like reel-to-reel spools! It’s a proper classy touch and I already want to know where you can get blanks.

These ones aren’t blank, though, they’re cosmic. On the first side Quiet Evenings have 15 minutes of sonorous synth drift which shimmers and twinkles and, well, you know what synths sound like don’t you. It’s a celestial cosmic drone with gentle whooshy details and it’s conspiring with my cheeky morning pipe ’n’ fresh coffee combo to start my day in a truly blissed out fashion, making me feel lucky not only to be alive, but to be paid to indulge in this lifestyle! Woop. Think Expo 70 at his most peaceful, or maybe Food Pyramid/High Wolf new age peace vibes but on a pure drone-drift tip, just so slow, so chill, so very hard not to like.

On the other side we’ve got Former Selves, who I’ve not encountered before, doing three songs, but if I hadn’t read the tape box I would be perfectly happy to assume it was the same artist...more gorgeous celestial peace drones in pure slow-synth syrup; drifty concordant healing drones with subtle analogue wibble. It does “liven up” a little in the middle but that just means repeated piano-ish chords and barely-there metronomic rhythms building to a Philip Glass-esque shimmer before being overtaken by more synth drones. Having a rough day? Just bung this tape on, toke up (or perform whatever equivalent earthly pleasure it is that indulges and uplifts you personally) and relaaaaax...I bet it’s especially good in the bath.
