We got a new thing in on Tri Angle this week by new signing Vessel (not to be confused by Leeds angular rockers Vessels and old electronica dude Vessel on Expanding!) Unlike the majority of the Tri Angle releases this one jumped right out at me on first listen.
It’s a right ol’ mixed bag of styles with tracks like ‘Stillborn Dub’ being dubby (prob a bit obvious that one) but with more of a futuristic electronic sound and with elements of that thar witch house. The album is slow, dark and dirty as it straddles techno, house, electronica, witch house, bass music and dub.
Skip to ‘Scarletta’ and that has a total Autechre vibe to it with it’s jittery and syncopated beats. The album reminds me of the kind of mixed bag you’d get with a Flying Lotus album but without the soul influence. It’s great to hear lots of electronic styles utilised on one record and it still sounding coherent though and not a total jumbled mess. Nice work Mr or Mrs Vessel.
