Cross is the brainchild of Warmer Milks’ Ma Turner and visual artist R Clint Colburn, and this album here that they’ve done is full of quite ‘80s-sounding post-punk pop music with a bit of a psychedelic edge. There’s lots of catchy tunes and big choruses, ‘Inhuman Nature’ quickly comes across like a mixture of Billy Idol and the Psychedelic Furs, although overall the album’s got more of a visceral blues rock feel.

It’s impeccably recorded and everything sounds enormous, with soaring vocals and cavernous drums, and in places it’s got an almost Crazy Horse-esque hard blues feel. It’s also reminding me of that Sacred Bones band Cult of Youth. I definitely like it best when things get a bit crunchy and discordant a la The Cramps or Dead Moon, but much of this is mid-paced Lanegan-style crooners with a bare-bones bar band feel. Soulful darkpop with surging guitars. Pretty slick.
