Fuck yeah! This is a lot of fun. Sophomore Lounge are on the button yet again with this 7” from the mysterious Spider Bags, who start out on the A-side with ‘Papa Was A Shithead’, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it blast of white-knuckle Ramones-inspired punk with an unhinged Dwarves/Puffy Areolas-style obnoxious abandon and a weird hypno-breakdown in the middle.

Then on the flip there’s ‘I Wish That I Never Had Fed You’, which is a longer mid-paced country rock ballad with gnarly fuzzed guitars alongside sweet smooth slide guitar, delivered with no apparent irony. The dirty tones are satisfying but it does go on a bit and the plodding pub rock vibe gets old before it’s over. I’ve got to admit I much prefer the snotty high octane pop blast on the A side. Between the two songs there’s probably something to alienate everybody, so in that respect, job well done.
