9/10 Phil Staff review, 28 September 2012

I like listening to tapes at home (the office tape player is knacked again). I’m always pleasantly surprised that tapes sound ace (I forget...). The tape I’m listening to is by Legendary Hearts on New Zealand’s Dungeon Taxis label and it’s their debut release.

I had no idea what this would sound like (it took me long enough to work out who it was by) but now it’s been on for a bit I’m getting into the swing of it. Lazy, hazy, phasey surreal-sounding beats, with hints of chillwave and ‘80s nostalgia. Lots of drum machines, synth stabs all presented in a lo-fi yet thoroughly charming fashion. It reminds me a lot of the Olde English Spelling Bee gear from a few years ago. It’s brilliantly sunny sounding music which I think our Business Lady may like. I’m going to suggest it to her tomorrow when Mikey reminds me that I’ve written this.
