Marika Hackman is here with a 7” of dusky, mournful alt-country/neofolk songsmithery. Lead track ‘You Come Down’ is dark and bleak and packed with queasy anatomical metaphors which is offset by the beauty of the delivery, which falls somewhere between Sharon Van Etten intimacy and Martha Wainwright-esque folky stoicism.

Flip it and there’s more pretty melodies and sad lyrics in ‘Mountain Spines’ which uses cello to swell and recede very effectively. Fans of people like Sarabeth Tucek and Nina Nastasia will agree that this is lovely, I’m sure.
