9/10 Phil Staff review, 17 October 2012

‘Little Joy’ from these guys was one of my favourites when it came out. It didn’t even get reviewed here (not enough hours in the day!) which is a shame cos they’re a top band. Temporary Residence know what they’re doing! Here’s a remix 12” featuring 4 tracks.... 2 originals and 2 remixes by Factory Floor and Justin K Broadrick.

The original of ‘Wrapped Coast’ is a beast with huge tribal drum rhythms, chuggy bass, scrawly guitars and low in the mix vocals. Reminds me a little of ‘Drums Not Dead’ Liars but it’s a lot heavier and moodier. It also reminds me a little of Factory Floor but without the techno which is a coincidence as they’ve got ‘The Floor’ to remix it. Unsurprisingly they techno things up with a minimal beat (keeping some of the original rhythms) but it’s much sparser than the clattery original. Both tracks are ace though! Let’s flip it over.

‘All I Can Do’ is a slow driving dubby tune with wandering guitars which eventually turn into squawling guitars. It’s what I term a ‘head nodder’ as that’s what I’m doing uncontrollably as I type. Just as well everyone is too busy to see me looking like a plank. This is a perfect tune for Broadrick to remix. The king of slow and hard fuzzes things up and almost makes them a little shoegazey at times. Shoegaze dub... there you go.  Whatever the fuck it is I like it. An excellent single from a band you should really check out if you’ve not done that yet!
