Banana & Louie is Matthew Stead and Sharon Leach from A Fine Day For Sailing, although apparently it’s a closely guarded secret which one of them is Banana and which is Louie. Long story short they had the idea of making a classic-sounding arranged pop album at last year’s Indietracks after singing a song with A Little Orchestra, and here’s what they came up with.

Given the title and sleeve design I was half-expecting a children’s album but this isn’t exactly that, just simple, lush and slightly twee indiepop with earnest, untrained vocals and a bit of a Burt Bacharach feel, in its best parts making me think of The Magnetic North. Some will find it heartwarming, some will find it a little too saccharine, but there’s certainly a lot of care and attention that’s gone into these bite-sized little pop miniatures. It’s making me feel like my oil has been replaced with maple syrup and my circuits are getting all gunked up and queasy, but you fleshy types might relate a little better with this.

10/10 Alex Hawkins Customer review, 29th April 2014

I'm not one to review albums on a regular basis, that's for reviewers, I'm a listener. What a charming red disc to have turning around on a turntable - the first track 'Postcard to Ditchling' just puts you in a seemingly timeless era.........So many instruments, so many melodies. Plus the album has an elephant on the cover - 'I like elephants' Alex Hawkins
