- Undercover Crops by Tweak Bird
8/10 Brian Staff review, 05 October 2012
First time for me, not really heard the Tweak Birds [sic] at any great length. They seem to have a female singer but no, they’re just comprised of two brothers but in my mind they’re like a cross between Toyah, mid-period Royal Trux and Nebula or summat. This means they’re a sludgy stoner band with space pixie vocals and a bit of a greasy hot garage throb. Oo-err that sounds well saucy!Do I like It? I’m not entirely sure yet but I think people who dig volcanic down-tuned guitars and ‘70s driving music will totally lap it up like a pool of swiftly evaporating snake’s blood off the dusty “hood” of a battered Pontiak. Also fans of The Melvins and Kyuss will really enjoy some of the groovier riffs to be consumed here, ‘Under Cover Crops’ with its hilariously awful punny title and head-bangers’ delight of hard fuzzy growling riffs/high-harmonising will satisfy your craving for something that bludgeons but within a more poppy framework - the seven tracks here are over in sixteen minutes. Yes, I do actually rather like their spin on things.
