- 5 inch Vinyl LP Series by Russell Haswell

Lord Haswell’s album for Downwards finally surfaces following that rather wicked remix 12”. Apparently these tracks were originally intended to be cut and pressed to a series of 5” vinyl records but some manufacturing bollocks prevented it. I have to say I’m glad as a 5” version would probably have gotten lost down the back of my couch along with loose change / shrapnel, the odd lighter, lego man heads and pizza crusts.
There are ten tracks in all, encompassing various modular synth twiddlings that really make my old mug grin with delight. I find Haswell’s audio really very entertaining, he’s able to coax some ridiculously smart sounds out of his machines with all manner of fucked up squiggly squelchy deformed mutoid acid rave detritus. Imagine your precious techno wax and Jap-noise CD’s got splattered by a steam roller into a zillion fragments and then reassembled. You put the needle onto the grooves and the speakers spew an almighty cacophony of analogue chaos right into your cranium. My wife often accuses me of listening to music that “sounds retarded”. She’ll be getting this sucker blasted at her with the volume on eleven at the earliest opportunity. That’ll teach here to whinge at me.
I reckon Haswell has been probably releasing stuff for around 15 years now but he doesn’t just churn them out relentlessly like some artists and so whenever something new from him drops it’s always an occasion. He’s been quite busy this year too which is most welcome. Get this bastard cranked up LOUD pronto.
