9/10 Ant Staff review, 20 September 2012

This is (I think) the fourth EP these London Techno stalwarts have released together. Not taking into account the ace recent Fear Ratio records. Following the recent slight departure in style they resume business to reek full on ‘floor mayhem with three choice bangers on this here Blueprint plate.

‘Bites’ comprises the A-side with a deep hypnotic slightly monotone groove augmented by lots of class sound design which the duo have been perfecting recently. It’s this element that really raises the bar and elevates it beyond it’s basic functional elements creating a more cerebral sonic experience which is both dark and euphoric.

‘D.O.D’ goes to work with a stuttering kick drum, spooked ethereal atmospherics, fizzing pulses and deranged bassline which mutates into a soaring crowd eruptor before thee olde hide and seek with the kick drum whips up a frenzy. This one actually wouldn’t have been out of place on the Fear ratio album.

Finally ‘Nel’ is another pristine production with an unusually catchy hook and some ghosts of rave lurking in the shadows. It’s both melodic and intense with lots of tricky breakdowns, with the groove consistent yet swerving in different directions with some nice fills. Yet another supremely solid offering from two of the UK’s finest.
