Natural Snow Buildings’ early limited DIY releases go for stupid money on eBay and Discogs nowadays so it’s nice to see that Ba Da Bing have been so kind as to press the epic ‘Night Coercion Into The Company Of Witches’ onto a 3CD/4LP package. It’s an epic excursion into ritualistic drone-folk hypno-chunter, sometimes bubbling and chanty, other times reflective and melodic, but always with an organic, human streak that’s heart-warmingly soulful.

The instrumentation varies from droning strings, fuzzed out psych guitar drift, squeaky recorders, accordion, vocal chanting and I think I even spotted a sitar. Mostly it’s relaxing drone swells and primitive thrum, but sometimes like in ‘Night Coercion’ it’s a crumbling of feedback and scree with drifting tremolo melodies burning holes in the back of your brain. It’s got a bit of a pagan, spiritual feel to it, you can imagine it accompanying weird countryside rituals performed by scary people in robes. Popul Vuh-esque raga drones with Dead C crumbling tones. Powerful stuff that you’ve probably already wanted for ages.
