6/10 Clinton Staff review, 28 September 2012

A full on collaboration from these two North Eastern heavyweights, who originally came together for a BBC session in which they wrote all the pieces on the day they were recorded. And you can tell, there’s a very loose, improvised feel to the record so you are not going to get any 10cc-style complex-a-pop here. You will however get...PROG and lashings of it.

It’s full on jazz rock hope-you-like-our-new-direction style explorations full of wibbly guitars, Tangerine Dream-style synths and motorik rhythms. Within the remit of jazz prog rock it’s still quite varied, ‘Travelodge Blues’ is full on Norwegian jazz rock with staccato rhythm while ‘Snow Watch’ IS Tangerine Dream. The final track ‘Higgs’ is my favourite of the bunch being very much like a 1970s theme for some TV documentary about outer space, it has ...gasp!... a melody and is not unlike a rocked up interpretation of the Pye Corner Audio stuff.
