Slightly gothy, otherworldy croon-folk on this debut 7” from the Isle of Wight’s Champs, who notably feature members of The Shutes and The Bees. Determined guitar twinkles accompany a solitary voice to begin with, later joined by gently droning organs while the reverbed high pitched vocals bring to mind a less dour, more folky Antony & the Johnsons in the way they give everything an sort of spectral lift.

The flip opens with some slightly barbershoppy gang vocals followed by a quite soulful folk-pop ditty with simple guitar hooks and ethereal wibbly backing vocals that’s really satisfying and I like it much better than the A side, building to a rousing ghost-chorus accompanied by statuesque guitar twinkles and accordion drift. Weirdpop goodness!
