Got another Leeds special here. Actually I’m not familiar with this band so they might not be from Leeds (or I might be at the wrong shows) but it’s recorded by ultra-’Worm MJ (and weirdly enough the singer actually has quite a similar voice to him too and on the photo in the insert he looks...not like MJ as such, but like someone playing him in a film would probably look) and it’s mastered by Tom Woodhead (out of Forward Russia) so I’m guessing they can’t be far away (my guess proved a little inaccurate, since Dany from Art For Blind has now kindly informed me they're from Brighton).
Anyway, I’m feeling a bit bad for not having a clue who they are because these songs are good! They’ve rather economically managed to fit six whole cuts into less than ten minutes here, so they’re quick and to the point, but it’s not grindcore or powerviolence or any of that jazz - this is informed by classic punk bands like early Damned and the Buzzcocks more than anything else, I think, with maybe a touch of the obnoxious weirdness of bands like Circus Lupus or Wrangler Brutes and the garagey immediacy of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, but these songs never feel hurried and they’re pretty melodic and in ‘The Time’ (the only tune here that passes the two-minute mark) they’re positively laid-back in their delivery. The tunes are good, too; not just throwaway little ditties, they all feel like proper songs. It’s amazing how much good music you can fit on a 7” if you try hard enough.
