An oddball release from an oddball comedian. Ted Chippington was a Peel favourite in the ‘80s with his distinctive Brummie charm. The A side is his ‘classic’ gag ‘Blues Fan’ which is done in about 30 seconds leaving the remainder of the side blank.

On the flip there are a few Ted rambles plus musical interludes. ‘Sunshine’ finds him darkly comic over some cheesy musical backing and is somewhere between John Cooper Clarke and Jasper Carrott. The musical stuff works pretty well and is not unlike Half Man Half Biscuit. The humour for those not aware of his reputation is a kind of rambling anti-humour, full of non jokes and disconcerting dead ends. Which reminds me of my favourite Chippington inspired gag. “Two biscuits are walking down the street, it starts to rain, one says to the other, ‘Hey your house is round the corner, let’s shelter in there or we are going to get all soggy’, the other one says ‘You’re not coming into my house you’ll nick all my washing’.”

It must be noted pedant fans how many spelling mistakes there are on the sleeve...I’ve counted three glaring ones so far including the misspelling of “Chippington”!
